TOWS Banner

In this new, futuristic young adult dystopia, Natalia Greyes and everyone she knows lives in There Once Were Starsa dome. Inside, the motto is “Peace. Love. Order. Dome.” Outside, long ago, there was the great cleansing war, which caused a toxic amount of radiation, and so it is far too dangerous for people to go out, or so they think.

Natalia’s parents were scientists on a very secretive mission when they were killed, leaving Natalia an orphan. She’s taken in by her grandparents, but her relationship with them is strained, and as she finally reaches the age of getting her own job assignment, and tries to discover more of the truth about their final expedition and what happened to them, things get even more complicated.

Evan, an Outsider, has caught Natalia’s attention. She first seems him when he’s standing outside the dome, and soon they are both assigned to the same scientist team. But Evan brings even more secrets and mystery into Natalia’s life, even as she tries to find her own place in the dome with her closest friends, Jak and Xara.

The book is fast-paced and offers many twists and turns; many young readers will identify with Natalia’s struggles as she tries not only to find out the truth behind the mysteries around her, but also who she is, and what matters most to her.
